Samuel “Sammy” Nunez, Jr.
Sammy Nunez served as a Louisiana State Representative from 1964 to 1969 and as State Senator from 1969 to 1996. He was State Senate President from 1983-1988 and from 1990-1996. In addition, he was an elected delegate to the Louisiana Constitutional Convention in 1973. Mr. Nunez was appointed by President Bush to the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. He is also a past President of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and of NCSL’s Foundation for State Legislatures. Mr. Nunez has been a member of the board of commissioners of the Port of New Orleans since 2002 and was president from 2005 to 2006.
