Charles S. “Charlie” Weems
Charles S. “Charlie: Weems III, has dedicated his career to shaping Louisiana’s legal, educational, and civic landscapes. In 1953 his family moved to Alexandria, Louisiana, where he excelled in academics, leadership, and athletics at Bolton High School. He then earned an accounting degree and later graduated with honors from LSU Law School, achieving Order of the Coif recognition.
Following law school, Charlie served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the American Spirit Honor Medal, and continued his service with the Louisiana National Guard until 1975.
Charlie was lured back to Alexandria in 1971 and joined in practice with Goerge Hall and Pappy Little at what is now Gold, Weems, Bruser, Sues & Rundell. Over the years, he has become one of Louisiana’s most distinguished trial attorneys, receiving the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s Distinguished Attorney of the Year, induction into the LSU Law Center Hall of Fame, and recognized by LPB as a Louisiana Legend – the only practicing lawyer to receive this honor.
Beyond his legal career, Charlie has been a driving force in education and civic affairs. He served on the LSU Board of Supervisors, twice as Chair, chaired the Athletic Committee, and was the first Chair of the SEC Conference of Chairs. He played a key role in transforming LSU at Alexandria into a four-year institution, expanding access to higher education for thousands of students.
Charlie has also strengthened Louisiana’s business communities, serving as a two-term President of the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce, founding the Central Louisiana Diversity Alliance, and contributing to numerous state and local civic organizations. His leadership and service continue to have a lasting impact on Louisiana.
