2004 Inductee

Charles W. DeWitt, Jr.

In January of 2000, Charles W. DeWitt became the first Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives from Rapides Parish since 1896. This cattle rancher was first elected to the House in 1979 after having served on the Rapides Parish Police Jury. As Speaker, “Charlie” DeWitt worked successfully to have LSU-Alexandria upgraded from a two-year to a four-year learning institution.
