Doris Lindsey Holland (Rhodes)

Doris Lindsey Holland Rhodes had the distinction of being the first woman legislator in Louisiana. In 1936, she was appointed to finish the term of her late husband, Senator Thomas Holland. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 1940 and served until 1948. She was also the publisher and editor of the St. Helena Echo, a local newspaper.
