F. Edward Hebert
Mr. Hebert was the longest-serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the state of Louisiana, having represented the New Orleans-based First Congressional District from 1941 until his retirement in 1977. He was the chairman of the Committee on Armed Services from 1971-1975 and is responsible for founding the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
