James Gill
Gill grew up in the country of Essex before going to Liverpool University. Upon graduation, Gill worked on a couple of English newspapers before being commissioned in 1973 to write a book on racecourses. A second book on breeding horses, followed. After joining the Houma Courier in 1978, Gill moved on to the Times-Picayune in 1979, became an Oped columnist in 1985 and has had a similar role at the New Orleans Advocate since 2013. His book Lords of Misrule, a political history of Mardi Gras, was published in 1995.
