John Hainkel, Jr
John Hainkel, Jr. was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1967 and served as Speaker of the House from 1980 to 1984. He was then elected to the State Senate in 2000 and chosen by his fellow Senators as President of the Senate. This election by his colleagues made Hainkel the first person in the nation to serve in both of these positions, according to the National Council of State Legislatures.
