Lucille Mae Grace
Miss Grace was the first woman to attain statewide elected office in Louisiana. She became Register of the State Land Office in 1931 on appointment of Governor Huey Long. She succeeded her father, who died in office, and was elected in her own right in 1932, 1936, 1940, 1944, 1948 and 1956. In 1957 Miss Grace died in office, as had her father twenty-six years earlier.
