Nathan Burl Cain
A native of Pitkin, Burl Cain is the longest serving warden in the modern era of the largest state penitentiary in the United States, Angola State Prison. Before assuming command at Angola, he was warden at Dixon Correctional Institute. Cain has received much credit for his efforts to reform the treatment of inmates. In 1990, he was elected to the Civil Service Commission and continues to serve in that capacity.
