Risley “Pappy” Triche

Pappy Triche served as alderman of Napoleonville and from 1954-1955 he was Napoleonville’s mayor. In 1956 Mr. Triche was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives and served four terms while in the House he served as floor leader for former Governor Jimmie Davis and former Governor Edwin Edwards. While floor leader in the 1960’s Representative Triche fought against school desegregation however in 1972 he spoke in favor of two bills, both of which passed, aimed at protecting racial minorities from job discrimination and stood before the House to apologize for his role a decade earlier in passing a long list of overtly racist laws aimed at preserving Louisiana’s system of segregation.
