Sylvan Friedman
Sylvan Friedman served Natchitoches Parish as a police juror from 1932-1944, a State Representative from 1944-1952, and a State Senator from 1952-1972. He served with three governors: Earl Long, Robert Kennon, and Jimmie Davis. Friedman has been president pro-tem of the Senate, a member of the legislative budget committee, Senate committee on higher education, finance, and chairman of the Judiciary B committee. In 1988, Northwestern State University renamed the student union in memory of him for his longtime role as a Natchitoches Parish legislator.
