W.J. “Billy” Tauzin
First elected to the U.S. House in 1980 as a Democrat. He has served the 3rd Congressional District longer than any of his predecessors. He later changed parties and became the first person in the history of the House of Representatives to serve leadership rolls for both parties. He is also the first person from Louisiana to be named Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
